Two Brews to Keep You Healthy

Posted by: | Comments (2)

It’s that time of year again–cold and flu season, at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere.

As you work on your Healing Codes to get rid of the underlying stress that definitely compromises your immune system, there are some other measures you can take to support your immune system in this season.

That’s the real key to not getting sick.

Here are two  “healthy brew” recipes designed to strengthen your immune system.

Healthy Brew to Fight Colds/Viruses

If you start to feel sick, brew this up and drink a cup every hour. You can also do what I do: make a batch and have at least a cup or two a day.

What you need:

Large pot with a lid
8 cups of water
1 cup lemon juice (best if fresh)
6-7 cloves of garlic,  crushed or minced
4 tablespoons of fresh ginger root, minced, or 3 teaspoons dried ginger powder
6-7 dashes of cayenne pepper

Put all ingredients together in the water, put lid on and simmer on low for 15 minutes.  Strain  (or not, if you prefer) and drink a cup an hour for a day, with honey or maple syrup added to taste.   You should feel at least 60-80% better the next day.  If something is lingering, do another pot worth. All of the ingredients are anti-microbial, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial.

“Golden Milk”

This brew is something that is supposed to be anti-inflammatory. If you look up the positive effects of turmeric (curcumin), you’ll find it can help a huge list of conditions. Check out this WebMD article, and unless you need to take precautions, try this and see if whatever you have improves.

To  me, it’s cheap (and tasty) insurance! (Note: You can use the turmeric paste in soups, stews, smoothies–whatever you like.)

Recipe for Golden Milk

First make the paste. You will need:

1/4 c. turmeric powder
1/2 c. filtered water
1/2 tsp. black pepper

To make the paste:
Put all of the ingredients into a sauce pan over high heat. Cook and stir constantly until it turns into a paste. This doesn’t take long at all. Place the paste in a jar, let cool, and then refrigerate.

To make the Golden Milk:
In a small pan heat the following;
1 c. almond milk
1/2 tsp. turmeric paste
1 tsp. coconut oil
honey to taste

Whisk until hot, and drink. This is best before bed but can totally be consumed cold. If you are in a pinch, I say make a shooter, cold and down the hatch.
