Time To Update!
ByI never had a problem with “keeping up with the Joneses.”
It always seemed stupid to me to try to keep up and fit in with all the latest trends. Not only stupid, but intuitively I knew it would be impossible. A never-ending race to keep up.
Yet, in some things I tend to be an “early adopter.” When something makes sense to me, I look into it, such as when I first heard about The Healing Codes and the HOLOS device. Though they didn’t have any “clinical trials” behind them at the time, I figured they were worth checking out. And I’ve benefited greatly from these and other “out there” things I’ve tried.
However, I’m not one to upgrade right away to the latest whatever, especially if it’s technology.
Hence, I keep my cell phone until it becomes almost unusable (I still have an iphone 8-plus), and I have Windows 10 on my computer. Alas, I need to actually buy a new computer since Windows 10 won’t be supported after October, and my computer won’t be able to run the new operating system.
So these are forced updates. But I’m realizing periodic updates are also important for one’s life as a whole.
Life is always evolving, and sometimes it can feel like it’s carrying you along until suddenly, you realize you need some “updating.” For me these days, it’s like trying to see if my old computer will take the updated software.
It will not. It looks like I need a whole new “operating system”: a whole new set of priorities and a new mindset to meet current challenges I’ve never faced before.
As I think of updating my phone, computer (and life), I’m reminded that a first good step is to “edit” it.
When my phone informed me that I couldn’t upload some photos because I didn’t have enough space, I took a deep breath and deleted a bunch of Merlin app bird recordings and other recordings, as well as photos. I had to face the hard truth that I probably never will get back to those recordings. Nor would I need certain photos. I also “offloaded” a bunch of apps I hardly use.
What about you? Is it time to step back and “update” your life? Do you need a whole new “operating system,” or do you just need to “edit” a few things?
Here is a blog post I wrote awhile ago about “editing your life” that I just reread and found helpful at this time. Perhaps you will as well.
